Trusting Yourself

Free Yourself From Unnecessary Worry

Control, Influence & Concern

Positive Intentions

Control, Influence and Concern

  • Make a list of everything that worries you, concerns you, that you fear at the moment. Put down everything you can think of, however small or large it may seem.
  • Review your list and ask yourself the following questions:
  • How many of these issue am I NOT directly connected with – I am just aware of them but not connected?
  • How many of these issues am I connected with, but not directly responsible or accountable for? This might include members of your family, friends, professional and national/global issues.
  • How many of these issues am I able to control or do I have direct and dominant influence over?
  • Now turn to the worksheet and write the issues in the appropriate circle – 1. = Concern, 2. = Influence (small influence on the outer rim, large influence near the inner rim), 3. = Control
  • What do see and understand from this?
  • Can you let those issues in the ‘Concern’ circle go?
  • Are bringing what influence you have to bear on those issues own circle 2? If not, how can you do so? If you are, let the residual ‘worry’ go…
  • And for those issues in your ‘Control’ what are you doing about them? Is that enough? Are you fulfilling your possibilities/responsibilities here?

Positive Intentions

  • Think of a person with whom you have a difficult or less than fulfilling relationship. It may even be someone whom you cannot think of without sensing some defensiveness, tension or negativity as a result of past interactions.
  • Holding them in your ‘mind’s eye’, remember that they, too, are only human and that they, too, have their problems from their past and their present circumstances … breathe and sense your body … let your tension/defensiveness go …now connect with them in their humanity and formulate one or two positive wishes or intentions for them …
  • Agree with yourself that the next time you see them you will bring these positive intentions to mind and ’speak/interact’ with that other person trough them.
  • Bring the completed worksheet and your observations with you to the session for reference.
